NextG Launches its Largest DAS Deployment in New York City

SAN JOSE, CA - NextG Networks, Inc., a leading provider of distributed antenna systems (DAS systems), successfully launched its largest DAS system to date in the densely-populated five boroughs of New York City. With more than 1,000 DAS nodes providing wireless coverage for more than 130 square miles in the Bronx, Staten Island, and parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, NextG believes that the New York City DAS system is the industry’s largest outdoor DAS deployment.

NextG’s DAS system successfully addressed the boroughs’ dense urban environment and the high-level RF complexity that the project’s enormous size presented. The DAS system can support multiple carriers and enhances wireless performance, capacity, and coverage for the region where more than two million New Yorkers, who are in the NextG DAS system coverage area, live and work.

More than 200 NextG employees and subcontractors — ranging from engineers and site planners to technicians and construction personnel — were employed on the job. In addition to the large number of deployed DAS nodes, NextG also installed more than 500 miles of fiber-optic cable throughout the boroughs.

“This DAS system represents the company’s largest and most challenging deployment to date,” said John Georges, NextG’s CEO. The project was coordinated through NextG’s wholly-owned regional subsidiary based in the Bronx, New York.

NextG’s New York launch follows its large Philadelphia-area DAS system deployment and reflects the company’s continued Northeast market expansion. This launch also adds to NextG’s expanding portfolio of DAS-system deployments on each coast and throughout the United States.

The company believes that carriers and communities are increasingly looking past traditional, large tower sites in favor of much smaller, unobtrusive DAS nodes for their wireless infrastructure needs. Strategically positioned in discreet public right-of-way locations, the low-profile DAS sites are intended to blend with the environment to satisfy local community aesthetic requirements. In addition, these systems are designed to provide necessary capacity to accommodate growing wireless user bases, handle significant traffic surges, and efficiently add needed new services, such as mobile broadband, enhanced data, and mobile video offerings.

About NextG Networks
NextG Networks is the market leader in outdoor DAS Networks, using fiber-fed distributed antenna systems to operate carrier-class wireless networks. With its proprietary fiber optic architecture and expert public rights-of-way site management, NextG designs, permits, builds, owns, operates, and manages DAS Networks. NextG’s DAS networks are protocol-neutral, so they scale easily to support multiple wireless carriers, services, and technologies. NextG provides RF transport and backhaul services to wireless service providers over discrete, multi-frequency, scalable networks that improve any wireless service’s quality, coverage, and capacity.
